What is sustainability?

According to the EPA :

"...This concept of sustainability encompasses ideas, aspirations and values that continue to inspire public and private organizations to become better stewards of the environment and that promote positive economic growth and social objectives. The principles of sustainability can stimulate technological innovation, advance competitiveness, and improve our quality of life."

Sustainable Resources:

We started building the E4S Network in 2000 with the classic entrepreneurs and have attracted the entrepreneurial thinkers, the change agents from business, government, academia and non-profit sectors of our community.

* Cleveland Green Building Coalition

The Cleveland Green Building Coalition is a nonprofit organization created to inform civic, business and building industry leaders as well as the general public about the economic, health and aesthetic benefits of green building.

* Habitat for Humanity

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, has a commitment to sustainability through their homes built and through their ReStore:
* ReStore REuses, REcycles and REsells functional building materials and tools, thereby diverting thousands of tons of usable materials from local landfills. The community gets affordable and sometimes unusual items for home improvement and renovations at discounted prices.
* Proceeds from the Habitat ReStore are used to benefit Habitat's mission to eliminate poverty housing throughout our community.

* APOC

APOC designs and makes high quality products out of raw materials with a local history. Our efforts have rescued tons of doors, floors and lumber from houses destined for the landfill.

* City of Cleveland Division of Waste Collection Recycles

Cleveland's recycling program grows larger every year. Working in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Waste District, the City holds several annual recycling roundups for computers, household hazardous materials, phone books and scrap tires. The City recycles Christmas trees and distributes free mulch to residents in the Spring. Input from residents is encouraged. Residents do not have to sort or bundle items for recycling at city-wide drop sites, and do not have to use blue bags. Those residents who are participating in the new collection pilot program can recycle curbside. For more information consult the City of Cleveland waste guide.

* US Green Building Council

The U.S. Green Building Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation.
